A Conversation with Rochak Bhatnagar

Meandering his ways from IT to literature, Rochak Bhatnagar has come a long way to make a place for himself amongst the likes of talented writers like Durjoy Dutta, Ravinder Singh, Nikita Singh and Preeti Shenoy. With all his three books on the bestsellers list, he is one of the well-known author in the market. When he is not busy writing, he is busy reading. Being an ardent fan of the noteworthy romantic writer, Nicholas Spark, let's find out what inspires Rochak Bhatnagar to write on love and relationships.

Q. From IT background to writing novels, how and when did the shift happen?

A: Firstly, writing is more of a hobby to me. I just love to write and believe in a saying that 'Do what you feel like doing rather than what others want you to do'. I think two things have motivated me to write. Firstly, as a child I was an ardent reader and secondly the events happening around me and in my life. I wanted to tell my stories in a way that not only entertain the readers but make them think too. That's what motivated me to write even more.

Q. All your three books have been well received by the Indian Audience. Did you expect to receive such kind of a response from the readers?

A: It is always exciting to see your name as an author on a book and your work being read by the world and to stand in the literary world along with fabulous authors like Durjoy Dutta, Ravinder Singh and Preeti Sgenoy was not an easy task. So, basically I was a bit nervous and never expected such a good response from readers. But now, it feels really great seeing the 'Bestseller' tag on my books.

Q. Your books have intrinsically explored the complexities of human vulnerabilities, love and relationships. How relevant/important do you think love is in today's day and age?

A: Love is one of the most intriguing, mystical and vibrant emotions ever experienced by the human race. Nevertheless it is also the most complex emotion, yet to be fully understood or defined. Ask anyone what love is? And the most common answer you could come across is that, it is a feeling which cannot be completely defined! Strange but true, that an emotion which in the history of mankind has changed destinies and shaped the life of millions, would still be in a state to be fully understood or comprehended. Yes, love is important in today's day and age; be it loving your friends, your spouse, your pets, your girlfriend or your parents. True Love, even in this 'jet set' era is not difficult to find at all. In fact it is anywhere and everywhere. One should have the patience, perseverance and more importantly an eye to judge and make the right choice.

Q. Who/what motivates you to write?

A: Well for me, my parents. My mom and dad, for their never ending love and instilling in me the confidence that I could achieve anything I wanted. The strength and courage they provided me throughout my growing days have led me to become the person I am today. I am writing novels for four years, but I did not have any specific desire of getting into the writing business. When my friends were busy chatting and bunking lectures to watch a movie, I was penning my novel. I just wrote the incidents that came to my mind randomly. I got my inspirations from everything around me, all the people around me, almost everything I saw and observed. I apprehended everything around me and let my pen run loose. And finally the day came when the books come into the market and it felt like I have achieved everything in life which was bigger than any achievement.

Q. Finally, a last motivational message to your readers!

A: Get down and start writing. And never try to write something that does not come from your heart. Don't care about the future, live your present to the fullest!
